DENVER — An explosion at a Denver assisted living facility on Wednesday has left the building closed indefinitely and displaced nearly 90 residents. The incident occurred when construction workers accidentally struck a power line, causing significant damage and injuries.
The blast, though localized to a specific area, had far-reaching effects throughout the premises, shattering windows and causing structural damage. Emergency services responded swiftly, and several residents, along with staff members, were taken to the hospital suffering from burns and other injuries.
Medical teams at HCA HealthONE Swedish Medical Center swiftly provided care to the victims, with seven individuals receiving immediate treatment for severe burns. Dr. Benson Pulikkottil, the medical director at the facility, was alerted to the disaster through a series of urgent messages. “We conduct mass casualty drills annually, and our last was focused on burn injuries, mirroring the needs of this unfortunate event,” said Morgan Jared, Director for Emergency Services.
