Kiti, Cyprus — A food delivery driver was assaulted and robbed by a group of six individuals in Kiti on Thursday evening, sparking a police investigation into the brazen attack. The 28-year-old victim, who is a foreign national, was violently stripped of his motorbike and mobile phone during the incident.
The attack transpired around 8:20 p.m. on Grigori Afxentiou Street, a locality that was partially obstructed by ongoing roadworks. It was under these circumstances that the delivery driver was forced to halt, finding himself a target for the ambush.
According to a police report, the driver was thrown to the ground by the assailants, all of whom are described as young men and remain unidentified. Following the assault, they seized his vehicle and mobile device before fleeing the site.
Despite the violent encounter, the driver did not sustain visible injuries. However, he was promptly taken to Larnaca General Hospital for a cautionary examination before being discharged with no significant harm noted.
In a promising turn of investigation, authorities later discovered the stolen motorcycle left abandoned in an open field approximately 500 meters from where the attack occurred. This clue could potentially aid police efforts as they comb through CCTV footage with hopes of identifying the perpetrators.
The case has been taken up by the Kiti Police Station, and officers are diligently working through the evidence to bring the assailants to justice. The community is also rallying in support to enhance safety measures for delivery personnel who often find themselves vulnerable during late hours.
As the investigation continues, the police are appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects involved in this crime. This incident has raised concerns regarding the safety of delivery drivers, prompting discussion among local authorities about improving security protocols to protect workers in the gig economy.
Residents of Kiti are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, as community cooperation is pivotal in preventing such incidents and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
