DeLand, Florida — A 32-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly driving a group of minors, including his younger brother, to a location where a violent altercation occurred. Marquion Lane was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
According to law enforcement officials, Lane transported three juveniles to a residence in DeLand early that morning, where an altercation erupted on the front porch. A doorbell camera reportedly recorded the scene, showing multiple minors attacking a 15-year-old boy. The victim’s mother was inside at the time, taking a shower, but she heard a commotion and stepped outside, only to witness the minors fleeing the scene with Lane.
Witness accounts indicate that the violence escalated further. As the group was leaving, the victim’s mother claimed she yelled at the departing vehicle. In response, she alleged that a young male pointed a firearm at her. She recounted ducking for cover after hearing what she thought was a clicking sound from the weapon, leading her to believe it had malfunctioned.
Authorities later apprehended a 16-year-old boy suspected of brandishing the gun during the incident. He now faces a range of serious charges, including two counts of aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. His identity has not been disclosed due to his status as a minor.
The investigation into the incident continues, and officials are attempting to identify the other two juveniles involved in the assault, who are expected to face battery charges.
Lane, who previously served as the victim’s football coach, has since been released on a $500 bond following his arrest. The incident raises concerns about youth violence and the responsibilities of adults in similar situations, as authorities work to piece together the events that transpired that morning.
