New Bedford, Massachusetts – The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office announced on Monday that a 32-year-old cold case has been solved, revealing that the identified killer was shot and killed during a robbery in 2006. The victim, 20-year-old Brent Davis, was killed at the Brickenwood Housing Project in New Bedford back in 1991. It was revealed that the shooting was due to a drug dispute.
Investigators were able to create a sketch of the suspect, known as “Bobby,” at the time of the murder. After three decades, a Massachusetts State Police Trooper continued the investigation in 2020 and determined that “Bobby” was an alias and the suspect had fled to the Dominican Republic after the murder.
Through interviews with witnesses from the 1991 investigation, it was revealed that the suspect’s true identity was Claudio Jorge. Photographs confirmed that Jorge matched the composite sketch from 1991, and relatives provided proof of his death in the Dominican Republic.
It was discovered that Jorge had a lengthy criminal record with narcotics and weapon offenses. He had been imprisoned in New York twice in the 1980s, and was deported to the Dominican Republic in 1998. He was eventually shot and killed during a robbery in 2006 at the age of 40.
The investigation update was shared with Davis’s mother, and the case was officially closed. This development brings a sense of closure to the family after years of uncertainty and unanswered questions.
