VERO BEACH, FL – Prosecutors have announced they will seek the death penalty in a harrowing case involving the brutal murder of a grandmother and her pregnant granddaughter. The victims, 68-year-old Amanda Baker and 19-year-old Shelby Baker, were found dead last November in their Vero Beach home, a crime described as a vengeful act following a tumultuous breakup and family drama.
Sheriff Eric Flowers of Indian River County has expressed strong support for the decision, emphasizing the gravity of the crime. He described the actions of the accused, Toby Featherstone, 20, and Aidan Kriseman, 21, as premeditated and reckless, asserting that the severity of the crime warrants the ultimate punishment.
The tragic incident occurred on November 10, when the suspects allegedly broke into the home on 23rd Place Southwest, launching a violent attack that resulted in the deaths of the two women and the unborn child. The house, now repainted and occupied by new residents, remains a poignant reminder of the loss.
Former Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg noted the rarity of pursuing the death penalty in Florida, highlighting the stringent criteria required for such a decision.
