SADDA BAZAAR, KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA, Pakistan – A violent attack in the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has left four individuals dead, including two security personnel, and three others critically wounded. Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger coach and a vehicle, prompting a manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators, according to District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Imran.
This incident is indicative of the escalating violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a region in northwest Pakistan that has seen a significant increase in terror-related incidents. In 2023, there were 419 militant attacks, resulting in 620 casualties, including 306 security forces personnel, 222 civilians, and 92 militants.
The recent attack has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting a response from the Turi Bangash tribes who convened an emergency jirga, a traditional assembly of leaders. This display of unity highlights the community’s resilience and determination to address the escalating violence.
Moreover, the attack in Kurram district follows a similar incident in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Chilas, where a ‘terrorist’ attack on a passenger bus resulted in nine fatalities and 25 injuries. These events underscore the need for strengthened security measures and a relentless pursuit of justice for the victims and their families.
The injured individuals are receiving treatment, as confirmed by Dr. Qaiser Abbas, deputy medical superintendent of the Parachinar district headquarters hospital. Meanwhile, local authorities are intensifying efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent future acts of violence.
