DAYTON, Ohio — A local court has delivered its judgment on the case involving Steven Miller, 34, who was accused in a shooting incident that occurred last February, resulting in one fatality and another person seriously wounded. The conclusion of the trial saw Miller acquitted of murder and felonious assault charges, although he was convicted on a lesser charge of possessing a firearm despite legal restrictions.
The incident, which captured the community’s attention due to the violence and tragic loss of life, took place on Feb. 22. Dayton police were called to Kettering Health Dayton following reports of gunfire injuries. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered two individuals had transported the victims in their vehicle to the medical facility.
Tragically, the altercation claimed the life of 22-year-old Dameka Ross, while leaving another individual critically injured. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office was tasked with officially identifying the deceased and confirming the details of the event.
The trial, overseen by Judge Steven Dankof and devoid of a jury at the defendant’s request, began on Sept. 30. Throughout the proceedings, the defense argued that the evidence presented by the prosecution was insufficient to conclusively prove Miller’s role as the shooter.
