San Bernardino, Calif. — In a shocking daytime attack that has rattled an affluent Southern California community, five men have been arrested and charged with the murder of a prominent businesswoman. Yesenia “Jessica” Torres, 44, was fatally shot on Jan. 10 as she walked to her vehicle outside the Burger Point restaurant in San Bernardino. Torres, a resident of Highland, was a well-known figure in the local business scene, owning several commercial properties with her husband across the region.
Her husband, Sergio Reveles, 53, of Yucaipa, along with four others, now faces charges including first-degree murder. The co-accused are identified as Gerardo Llamas Torres, 31, of Bakersfield; brothers Arnaldo Ruelas, 54, and Reynaldo Ruelas, 37, both of Los Angeles; and Juan Perez, 42, of Riverside. None of the accused are related to the victim.
During a recent news conference, District Attorney Jason Anderson announced that all suspects pleaded not guilty and could face the death penalty if convicted, due to the alleged aggravating factors of financial gain, lying in wait, and executing the murder during a robbery.
Authorities have detailed a premeditated plot where the assailant, believed to be Llamas Torres, ambushed Torres as she approached her Mercedes-Benz SUV.
