DALLAS, Texas – A tragic incident occurred in a Dallas home when a 6-year-old girl was fatally shot with an unattended gun while her mother was at a mortuary planning the funeral for her 14-year-old brother. The girl, identified as Ah’Laynah Modica-Ross, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but sadly succumbed to her injuries.
The Dallas Police Department revealed that the girl was at home with two adults and two other children at the time of the shooting. Damariya Sowles, 19, was arrested on suspicion of tampering with physical evidence, and revealed to investigators that he had left an unattended gun, a MAC-10, in the home.
