Covington County, AL — A family dispute tragically escalated to violence Tuesday evening, resulting in the death of one man and the arrest of another on murder charges in Covington County. Authorities have confirmed that the incident, which drew a significant law enforcement response, occurred around 8 p.m. on Oscar Pugh Road.
Local deputies were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire and a casualty. Upon arrival, they encountered a tense situation with a white male barricaded inside a home. Sheriff Blake Turman later identified the suspect as 60-year-old Edward Morgan, who ultimately surrendered to authorities after refusing to leave the residence. Morgan, a resident of the county, has been charged with murder and is currently held on a $500,000 bond at the county jail.
According to Sheriff Turman, the victim, whose identity has not yet been disclosed pending family notification, was a relative of Morgan. Emergency services rushed the victim to Mizell Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
