ANAHEIM, Calif. – Three tragic deaths by suicide have occurred at Disneyland Resort in Southern California in less than a year, prompting the park to take action to prevent further incidents.
The most recent tragedy took place when 24-year-old Jonah Alexander Edwards died after falling from the Pixar Pals parking structure at Disneyland. This follows the deaths of Marney Schoenfeld in February and Christopher Christensen in December 2022, who also died by suicide after falling from the parking structures.
In response to these tragedies, Disneyland has stationed multiple cast members around the top floor of the parking structures as a precautionary measure. This move aims to prevent copycat incidents and to brainstorm preventative ideas that are both effective and aesthetically pleasing.
Some fans have expressed concern for the well-being of the cast members, pointing out that they may lack the training and resources necessary to properly deescalate and prevent these incidents. Others have suggested that Disneyland Resort may be reluctant to take action that could negatively impact its family-friendly image.
