Community in Shock as Woodstock Police Hunt for Shooter in Tragic Death of Local Teen

WOODSTOCK, Ga. — Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Matthew Milner, who was shot inside his apartment at the Riverstock Apartments late Monday afternoon. Police are working to identify the shooter and have heightened patrols in the area to ensure community safety.

Officers from the Woodstock Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting the shooting shortly after 5:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Milner with gunshot wounds. Emergency responders from the Woodstock Fire Department attempted to provide first aid before he was transported to Kennestone Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to Capt. Ron Sinfelt of the police department.

While investigators believe there is no immediate threat to the public, they have collaborated with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to pursue leads in the case. Capt. Sinfelt emphasized the importance of thoroughness in their inquiry, mentioning the robust resources available through the GBI to aid in their investigation.

The incident has left residents shaken, as homicides are infrequent in Woodstock, with this being only the third recorded in the past decade. One neighbor expressed concern, stating, “It’s scary, especially having kids. It’s sad and nerve-wracking.” The shooting not only impacts those living nearby but also deeply affects Milner’s family, including his mother, who shared the apartment with him. Another neighbor observed, “I really keep her in my prayers.”

As detectives pursue information about potential motives or suspects, the community remains on edge. Police have not yet released details about a potential suspect or any known motivations behind the violence.
