The celebration of life event marked two months since the 15-year-old was killed in the early hours of July 6, leaving family and friends grappling with their loss.
Daydrian’s family has actively sought justice since his death, distributing flyers throughout the city that offered rewards for information. Their efforts received a significant development when Tucson police announced the arrest of 20-year-old Katraun Devon McLendon in connection with the shooting. For Daydrian’s mother, Dahlia, the confirmation brought a mix of relief and sorrow.
“Initially, I was overwhelmed with emotions. The feeling of hopelessness I had started to fade when I heard the news,” Dahlia said. However, she emphasized that the arrest is only a partial resolution, as she believes another individual was involved. The incident was reportedly captured on video, which remains unpublicized. Dahlia has seen the footage and is convinced that accountability for all parties involved is crucial.
Describing her son as vibrant and kind, Dahlia is determined to continue her fight for justice, not just for Daydrian but for other families impacted by gun violence. “It’s essential to raise awareness about ongoing cases,” she stated.
