Miami, Florida – Two former college ice hockey players from New York and Massachusetts were tragically killed in a double murder over the weekend in Miami. The victims, Sidney Capolino, 23, from Pawling, New York, and Meghan Moore, 25, from Centerville, Massachusetts, were roommates who were shot dead by Moore’s ex-boyfriend.
The suspect, Luis Nopales, 40, who worked at a restaurant, shot Moore, whom he had a prior romantic relationship with, outside their apartment before entering and shooting Capolino. Nopales then turned the gun on himself. All four individuals lived together in the same apartment complex, according to police.
Capolino and Moore, who were described as best friends by relatives, were former ice hockey teammates at New England College in New Hampshire. Both had recently graduated from the school, leaving many in shock and devastated by the news of their deaths.
Authorities were alerted to the incident at 9 a.m. on Saturday after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots. Upon arriving at the scene, they found Moore critically injured outside the apartment, followed by additional gunshot victims inside the residence.
Friends of Moore revealed that her relationship with Nopales was tumultuous, with signs of issues but nothing indicating such a tragic outcome. Records show that Nopales had faced eviction from his previous residence in Coral Gables in late 2023 due to non-payment of rent.
At this time, police have not disclosed an official motive for the double murder. The community, along with the friends and families of the victims, are left mourning the loss of these two young individuals whose lives were taken far too soon.
