CINCINNATI — A man linked to a violent altercation in downtown Cincinnati is now facing federal drug charges. Jermaine Matthews, 39, from East Price Hill, was already under indictment on multiple counts related to the brawl that occurred on July 26. Cincinnati law enforcement officials confirmed his involvement in a skirmish that left several individuals injured.
On August 26, federal agents apprehended Matthews, according to Dominick Gerace II, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio. Following his arrest, a federal grand jury charged Matthews with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and fentanyl, with plans to distribute over 40 grams of fentanyl, a dangerous and potent opioid.
In addition to drug charges, Matthews faces accusations related to operating a drug trafficking venue on Kenton Street. Gerace announced that three other individuals are also implicated in this case: Jerome Mitchell, Terence Huff, and Clarence Williams.
Hamilton County prosecutors have alleged that Matthews played a central role in coordinating the downtown attack. Eyewitness accounts and video footage reportedly show him violently assaulting victims, including punching and stomping on an individual with the intent to cause grave injury. In a particularly disturbing action, Matthews is accused of dragging an unconscious victim into the street before continuing his assault.
