Cincinnati Assault Suspect Extradited: Six Indicted in Downtown Attack that Shocked the Nation

CINCINNATI — A man accused of violently assaulting a woman is back in Hamilton County after being arrested in Georgia. The incident, which took place on July 26 near Fourth and Elm streets, has garnered significant attention due to its severity and the ensuing viral videos.

Patrick Rosemond, 38, was taken into custody on August 4 in Fulton County, Georgia. He waived extradition and was transported back to Ohio by a fugitive task force. Rosemond was booked into the Hamilton County Jail at approximately 2:13 a.m. on Friday and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance shortly thereafter.

Rosemond faces two counts of felonious assault and one count of aggravated riot, although a Hamilton County grand jury has since added more serious charges against him and five other individuals linked to the incident. Each suspect now faces three counts of felonious assault and assault, as well as two counts of aggravated riot, potentially leading to sentences of nearly 30 years if convicted on all counts.

According to Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich, the case is significantly influenced by Ohio’s aiding and abetting laws, which apply to all individuals involved. The other five suspects are Aisha Devaughn, 26, Dominique Kittle, 37, Jermaine Matthews, 39, Montianez Merriweather, 34, and Dekyra Vernon, 24. Each has also been indicted in connection with the assault.

In addition, Gregory Wright, 32, was arrested earlier this week, bringing the total number of suspects involved to seven. Wright faces charges of aggravated riot and aggravated robbery. Authorities allege he stole a necklace from the victim while she was being attacked and later recorded the ongoing violence.

Five of the initial suspects underwent arraignment on Thursday during which prosecutors outlined disturbing details about the assault. Chief Assistant Hamilton County Prosecutor Kip Guinan provided a narrative of the attack, noting that at least one bystander intervened only after severe injuries had already occurred. Guinan acknowledged the presence of racial slurs in the videos but emphasized that the primary concern remained the severe violence displayed.

The prosecutor’s remarks highlighted the brutality of the incident, stating that it could have resulted in even more tragic outcomes if the violence had continued unchecked. The investigation continues as law enforcement prepares for the upcoming court proceedings, which will determine the fates of those involved in the melee.
