Chelmsford, England — A man accused of tampering with a murder scene testified in court that he faced threats at knifepoint from the alleged murderer, compelling him to assist in the concealment of the victim’s body. Ciprian Ilie, 45, recounted his traumatic experience during proceedings at Chelmsford Crown Court, detailing the horrifying discovery he made on November 19, when he arrived at the Barista bar.
Ilie claimed he was coerced into aiding Ceyhan Dinler, who is suspected of killing Mr. Cumali Turhan, also 45, following a dispute over a romantic relationship. According to prosecutors, Dinler allegedly attacked Turhan in a fit of rage, resulting in gruesome injuries that included stab wounds to the neck. Evidence presented in court indicated that police discovered the victim’s severed body parts at the scene.
Describing the circumstances surrounding his arrival, Ilie stated that he was contacted by Dinler around 2 a.m. Upon entering the bar, he was taken aback by the extensive bloodshed. “At first, I thought the stains were wine,” he recalled. However, as he examined the area, he soon realized the terrifying reality. “There was blood everywhere, and I saw a foot under the table attached to the dead body,” he added.
Feeling immense fear for his life, Ilie said that Dinler threatened him with a knife, stating, “If you don’t help me, I’ll kill you and your girlfriend.” Gripped by terror, Ilie recounted his thoughts racing as he considered his options. He ultimately decided to comply with Dinler’s demands for self-preservation.
Amid the chaos, he asked Dinler what had occurred, to which he received a chilling response: “He deserved it; it was something between his wife and [Mr. Turhan].” Ilie expressed that he felt an overwhelming sense of dread, noting, “I thought I would die there.”
Prosecutors allege that after the brutal act, Ilie helped dispose of Turhan’s body, which was ultimately discovered at a landfill site nearly two months later, following an extensive search operation by the police. Ilie has denied any knowledge of the murder or intentions to assist Dinler in hiding the crime.
During his testimony, he described the scene inside Barista as harrowing, stating, “The walls were covered in blood; it was a horrifying sight.” The proceedings are ongoing, with the jury expected to consider whether Ilie’s actions constituted criminal complicity or were motivated solely by fear. As the trial unfolds, the details surrounding this tragic event continue to emerge, painting a disturbing picture of betrayal and violence.
