HONOLULU — A man has been charged with murder following the death of his wife, who reportedly suffered numerous fatal injuries at their home, according to local authorities. Frank Bright, 38, was taken into custody on Saturday, facing allegations of second-degree murder in connection with the death of 43-year-old Aimee Takaki-Bright, discovered in their residence earlier this week.
The incident came to light after property owners conducted a welfare check on the couple’s apartment. Officers arrived at the scene on Thursday after being alerted to an open door and signs of disarray inside the home, where they found Takaki-Bright unresponsive in a hallway. Investigators noted traumatic injuries to her face, neck, and the back of her head, suggesting a violent confrontation.
Authorities reported that evidence collected at the scene included a black tomahawk blade and a fire extinguisher found near the victim’s body. An autopsy revealed that her death resulted from multiple chop wounds, and the case was classified as a homicide.
Remarkably, just hours before the discovery of his wife’s body, Bright had been arrested on unrelated charges that included criminal trespassing and making terroristic threats at a property in Halawa Heights. During that arrest, police reportedly observed blood on Bright’s jeans and a black glove he was wearing. Both items were secured as potential evidence.
Forensic analysis subsequently confirmed that the blood found on the tomahawk blade matched both Aimee Takaki-Bright and Frank Bright. Further testing indicated that the blood on Bright’s clothing also belonged to his wife, solidifying the case against him.
The couple, married for less than five months, had a turbulent relationship. Bright filed for divorce in August, expressing concerns about their differing life goals and diminished mutual support. Just weeks after their wedding, Bright’s mother sought a temporary restraining order against him, alleging he had threatened her and her partner, even pointing a gun at them during one incident.
According to court documents, Bright has struggled with depression and is a licensed medical marijuana user. He was reportedly sober from alcohol for four months at the time of the incident and owned two registered firearms, which were allegedly not in his immediate possession.
Frank Bright’s bail has been set at $1 million. He remains in police custody, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his wife’s tragic death.
