Nanaimo, Canada — Local authorities in Nanaimo are intensifying their search for an assailant following a particularly brutal attack outside a Nicol Street tattoo parlor, revising their initial theory that the violent incident was random. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) now suspect that the attacker may have known the victim, suggesting a possible personal motive behind the aggression.
The incident, captured on a nearby surveillance camera, occurred at roughly 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The footage reveals a distressing scene where an individual approaches the victim who was seated outside the tattoo shop and delivers a forceful punch to their head. The assault escalates quickly as the perpetrator then subjects the victim to a series of punches and kicks, continuing the attack even after the victim had ceased moving. The assailant was last seen dragging the victim back toward the store before fleeing the scene prior to the arrival of the police.
“The level of violence involved leads us to believe this was not a random attack,” stated Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien. “We are pursuing a line of inquiry that there may have been prior interactions between the two individuals.”
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was promptly taken to the hospital with serious injuries described by officials as potentially “life-altering.” As of now, they remain in medical care as investigations continue.
The authorities have yet to identify the suspect, but they are following several leads with optimism. “We’re confident we’ll track down the individual responsible,” O’Brien mentioned, underscoring the ongoing efforts to solve the case.
