Investigators cited security footage, alarm records and witness accounts as they charged Michael Myers in the death of his wife, Dawn Myers.
BRISTOL BOROUGH, Pa. — A 59-year-old Bucks County man has been charged with criminal homicide and five other offenses after authorities said his wife was found dead in an upstairs bedroom of their Wood Street home early Thursday.
Michael Myers was arrested Aug. 13 by Bristol Borough police and Bucks County detectives in connection with the death of his wife, 54-year-old Dawn Myers. He is charged with criminal homicide, strangulation, aggravated assault, intimidation of witnesses or victims, possession of an instrument of crime and false imprisonment. The charges are allegations, and Myers is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
According to a probable cause affidavit, police first went to the home at 1305 Wood Street about 6:09 a.m. after receiving a residential alarm. Officers checked the outside of the locked house, saw no signs of forced entry or suspicious activity and received no response when they knocked. They were called back about 19 minutes later after a report of a possible deceased person.
Dawn Myers’ son told investigators he had received a security alert and went to the house, where he found his mother on the floor of a second-floor bedroom. Police said officers later found her there with multiple men’s neckties around her neck. Authorities have described her death as a strangulation.
The affidavit says investigators reviewed the home’s alarm system and Ring camera recordings as part of the case. Video showed Dawn Myers and Michael Myers entering the home at 4:06 p.m. Aug. 12. Investigators said footage from a rear camera showed Dawn Myers letting dogs into the backyard at 6:41 p.m. They said no one was recorded entering or leaving afterward until Michael Myers exited through the front door at 6:02 a.m. the following morning.
Investigators said Myers was recorded locking the door and moving toward a white Cadillac SUV outside. The affidavit also says the home’s alarm system registered motion at about 6:02 a.m. and generated additional notifications in the minutes that followed. Detectives later tested the alarm system and reported that its monitored zones were working.
Dawn Myers’ son told police that when he and his wife arrived, Myers was sitting in the Cadillac. The son said he entered the house after asking where his mother was and later found her upstairs. According to the affidavit, he alleged that Myers stood near the bottom of the stairs as he tried to leave. The son said he feared Myers would hurt him and struck Myers with a phone to get past him and call for help.
Police said Myers complied when officers ordered him out of the residence and was taken into custody. Investigators documented scratches, abrasions and other visible marks on him. The district attorney’s office said Bristol Borough police and Bucks County detectives jointly investigated the case.
Bucks County District Attorney Joe Khan expressed sympathy for Dawn Myers’ family and said his office would continue working with borough police and county detectives on the prosecution. Bristol Borough Police Chief Joe Moors also credited the agencies involved in the investigation.
Myers was arraigned early Aug. 14 before Magisterial District Judge Brian M. Marriott and was sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility. He remains jailed without bail. Court reporting indicates a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26, when prosecutors would be expected to present evidence supporting the charges.
