Cocoa, Florida – A 20-year-old man has been arrested following a grand jury indictment for his alleged involvement in a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month. Xazavier E. Butler was taken into custody as investigators continue to piece together the harrowing details surrounding the incident that claimed the life of 15-year-old Ka’Ryah Duncan.
Duncan was shot on Oct. 6 outside Anchors Seafood & Chicken on Clearlake Road in Cocoa. In connection with her death, both Butler and 21-year-old Jonterich L. Smith have been indicted on charges that include first-degree murder with a firearm. Each man also faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder for allegedly targeting a vehicle occupied by Duncan and two other young men, aged 18, who were injured in the incident.
The sequence of events unfolded when the two suspects exited an SUV armed with assault rifles, accompanied by a third individual carrying a handgun. Witnesses reported that the trio unleashed a barrage of gunfire, striking the victims’ vehicle multiple times.
