LONGUEUIL, Quebec – Laury Choinière, a 21-year-old woman from Longueuil, on Montreal’s South Shore, is speaking out about her experience with domestic violence after surviving a brutal assault. Her mother, Julie Choinière, posted photos on Facebook showing the before and after of the attack and is demanding justice for her daughter.
The incident occurred at her ex-partner’s apartment after an argument over their relationship allegedly turned violent. Laury hopes to raise awareness and help other women in similar situations by speaking out about her experience.
The suspect, 27-year-old Yan-Phillipe Leduc, was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody. He has been charged with assault, breach of conditions, and forcible confinement. This is not Leduc’s first encounter with the law; he previously pleaded guilty to assault and criminal harassment in another case of domestic violence.
Laury expressed her intention to seek therapy to cope with the emotional effects of the attack, as well as the lasting impacts it will likely have on her. A friend has set up an online fundraiser to support Laury in her recovery process.
