Before Her Death, Pregnant Teen Texted ‘If I Die, It Was Greg’

TAUNTON, MA – An 11-year-old suspect appeared in court to face charges related to the murder of a pregnant teenager. Gregory Groom has been accused of killing his girlfriend, Kylie Montero. Authorities discovered human remains on Groom’s property two weeks after Montero was reported missing.

During the court proceedings, Montero’s family filled the front row, visibly shaken but silent as the charges were read. Groom’s family was also present but chose not to speak with the media.

Groom is being held without bail, charged with Montero’s murder. Prosecutors revealed details from an interview where Groom admitted to a confrontation with Montero. He described an argument that escalated, resulting in Montero being pushed, falling, and hitting her head. Groom later confessed to stabbing her twice during the altercation.

Prosecutors explained that when Groom was informed of a search warrant for his property, he provided a map indicating the location of Montero’s body. Her remains were found buried five feet underground.

Text messages between Montero and her sister, sent on the day of her disappearance, were presented as evidence. Montero had described a violent encounter with Groom, expressing fear for her life.

Groom faces additional charges, including aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault, and intimidation of a witness. He is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on September 10.

The case highlights the ongoing issue of domestic violence. Resources such as the National Domestic Violence Hotline are available for those in need of support.
