Aliquippa, PA — Authorities in Aliquippa have charged Ireland Brown in connection with a brutal assault that took place at a local Veterans of Foreign Wars post on January 5. Brown, who was bartending during the incident, is accused of observing the violence without intervening, subsequently lying to police, and tampering with evidence.
This marks the third arrest related to the disturbing attack where Brett Ours allegedly assaulted Preston Coleman. During the assault, police claim Ours delivered nearly 250 punches and kicked Coleman approximately 50 times. The attack was intensively violent, including tactics such as choking, elbowing, slamming a stool over the victim’s head, and even standing on his throat.
Detective David Mosura from the Aliquippa Police expressed dismay at the bystander’s behavior during the crime. “In such horrifying circumstances, the hope is that witnesses act swiftly to seek help. Regrettably, that did not happen here,” he commented.
The severity of the assault was further highlighted in messages Brown reportedly sent to her father, Ronald Brown, indicating the life-threatening nature of Coleman’s condition as the attack was ongoing. Following these messages, Ronald Brown is alleged to have arrived at the scene and participated in the attack.
According to police statements, after the departure of Ours and her father, Ireland Brown did call 911; however, she initially attempted to conceal evidence including her blood-stained hoodie. When authorities arrived at the scene, Brown provided false information, denying knowledge of the identities or actions of the perpetrators.
Further investigations revealed Brown was well-acquainted with Ours. Following a several-week manhunt earlier this month, police apprehended Ours, who is currently held at Beaver County Jail facing charges including attempted homicide. Ronald Brown has also been charged in relation to the incident and turned himself in last month.
Currently, Ireland Brown faces serious charges, including hindering apprehension and aggravated assault. The case has unsettled the local community, underscoring concerns about bystander responsibility and the implications of obstructing justice in violent crime scenarios.
This case highlights enduring issues surrounding the response to violent crimes in communities and the significant impacts of such actions. Legal professionals emphasize the importance of witnesses understanding their crucial role in crime intervention and ensuring justice. The investigation is ongoing, with local law enforcement determined to fully elucidate the circumstances around the brutal attack and all involved.
