PHOENIX – Authorities are seeking public assistance in a disturbing sexual assault case that occurred in early August. The Phoenix Police Department held a press conference Friday to provide details about the incident, which took place on the morning of August 14, and to encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward.
Officers were dispatched to the area of 46th and Oak streets shortly after 4 a.m. after receiving a report about loud yelling from a nearby alley. Upon arrival, they followed a blood trail that led them to the victim, a woman in her mid-30s, who was found unconscious and partially clothed, sustaining significant injuries.
The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for critical injuries but has since been released. Her ongoing recovery from the assault is a matter of concern for the detectives handling the case. “In my experience with these kinds of investigations, the injuries the victim suffered were exceptionally severe,” said Lt. Casey Tornberg of the Phoenix Police Adult Sex Crimes Unit during the press briefing.
To aid in the investigation, law enforcement is urging anyone who may have witnessed unusual activity in the vicinity between the evening of August 13 and the early hours of August 14 to reach out with any information. The police have established an online portal designed for the public to anonymously submit videos or photographs that may have captured evidence related to the case.
Individuals with information can contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377) or 480-TESTIGO (837-8446) for Spanish. Callers can remain anonymous, and tips leading to an arrest may qualify for a cash reward.
“We’re appealing to the community for any potential witnesses who might have seen or heard something out of the ordinary during that time frame,” Tornberg added. “We’re particularly interested in any video footage that could aid our investigation.”
As the community rallies to support the victim’s recovery, the police continue to emphasize the importance of collective effort in solving this case. The hope is that with the public’s assistance, justice can be served, and such violent acts can be prevented in the future.
