Arrest Made in Restraining Order Case Involving Lawyer Who Attempted to Kill Unborn Daughter

HOUSTON, TX – A Houston man, once convicted for attempting to terminate his wife’s pregnancy using abortion drugs, is now embroiled in further legal issues. Mason Herring, a former lawyer, is accused of breaching a protective order during visits with his children, court documents reveal.

Herring’s criminal history began in 2022 when he confessed to spiking his wife’s water with misoprostol, an act that led to her premature delivery. He received a sentence of six months’ imprisonment and a decade of probation, a decision that sparked controversy over its leniency.

Despite his release, Herring was instructed to avoid any contact with his ex-wife, Catherine Herring. However, records indicate he violated this order on multiple occasions. On February 11, he allegedly tried to call her twice, and later that month, he encountered her during a supervised visit with their children.

The visits, conducted by a monitoring firm, are typically absent of Catherine Herring’s presence. Yet, on February 22, Mason Herring reportedly waited in the lobby to see her when she arrived. Another incident on March 23 involved him approaching her vehicle, seemingly aware of when she would be there.

These actions have prompted prosecutors to request the revocation of his bail. Adding complexity to the case, the district attorney’s office is considering recusal due to a conflict of interest with the newly appointed district attorney’s previous employment at Herring’s law firm.

The case underscores the challenges in enforcing protective orders and the implications for domestic violence victims. It also highlights the critical role of thorough monitoring in supervised visitation to prevent further violations.

The ongoing legal battle aims to address these serious allegations and ensure the safety and well-being of Catherine Herring and her children. As the situation unfolds, the community watches for the court’s next move in this high-profile case.
