NEW YORK – Annaleigh Ashford has been cast in a new Paramount+ drama called “Happy Face,” which is based on a true crime podcast, the streaming service announced.
The series will tell the story of Melissa Moore, the daughter of a convicted serial killer, who is pulled into an investigation after her father contacts her to take credit for another victim. Based on Moore’s autobiography “Shattered Silence” and the “Happy Face” podcast, the show will explore the impact of her father’s crimes on his victims’ families, as well as Moore’s own identity.
“Happy Face” will consist of eight episodes for its first season and is scheduled to premiere on Paramount+ in 2025. The series will be led by showrunner and executive producer Jennifer Cacicio, along with executive producers Robert and Michelle King, Michael Showalter, and Liz Glotzer. Showalter will also direct the series’ pilot.
In addition to her upcoming role in “Happy Face,” Ashford is known for her work on television shows like “B Positive,” “American Crime Story,” “Unbelievable,” “Evil,” “Younger,” and “Masters of Sex.” She will be ending her run as Mrs. Lovett in the Broadway production of “Sweeney Todd” in January.
Ashford’s involvement in “Happy Face” is a new milestone in her career and adds to her diverse portfolio of roles. The series promises to offer a fresh and unique perspective on the true crime genre when it premieres.
