Ahmedabad, India — A series of road accidents has rocked the city of Ahmedabad, culminating in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to several others in just a two-day span. The incidents, which occurred in close succession on November 2 and 3, have reignited concerns about road safety in the bustling urban center.
In the first distressing event, a collision between two motorcycles in the Oganj area claimed the life of 45-year-old Lagdhirbhai Babubhai Desai. The accident took place near Navkar Heights, adjacent to the Karnavati Eye Hospital AMTS bus stand, around 8:20 p.m. on November 2. Desai was accompanied by his 12-year-old son Aryan when their motorcycle was struck by an Activa scooter carrying three passengers. Eyewitness accounts suggest the scooter was being handled recklessly, leading to a violent crash that inflicted fatal head injuries on Desai. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Desai’s son, Aryan, suffered multiple injuries and was immediately transported to Sola Civil Hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition. The family, burdened with grief, has called for a thorough investigation into the incident, with Desai’s brother, Bharatbhai, filing a police complaint alleging negligence on the part of the Activa driver.
Tragedy struck again the very next night. Harsh Nitinbhai Kothari, a 28-year-old man, was killed in a collision on SP Ring Road near Bhadaj Bridge. The crash involved a Bolero pickup truck and a WagonR around midnight on November 3. At the time, Kothari and his family were returning from a Diwali sightseeing expedition.
The location, near the Seven Seas Party Plot, became a sudden scene of sorrow for the family that had just been enjoying the festive lighting across the city. Another family member, Rashmikant Madhusudan Shah, recounted the night’s horror, noting that his brother Hareshkumar Shah, sister-in-law Kavita, and nephew Abhi, along with Kothari’s wife Honey, were all in the vehicle and sustained injuries of varying severity.
Emergency services swiftly responded, transporting the injured to Sola Civil Hospital. Although Honey was treated for minor injuries and released, the others needed more intensive care and were moved to Zydus Hospital. Harsh Kothari, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries, adding to the grim toll of the road.
Following these incidents, authorities have intensified their scrutiny of traffic management and vehicle safety protocols in Ahmedabad.
