A tragic incident in Georgetown, Texas has shocked the community after a retired District Judge and his wife were found murdered in their home. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office announced that their 45-year-old son, Seth B. Carnes, has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection to the deaths of his parents.
The arrest took place late Monday evening after authorities received a call about a shooting near the residence of Alfred “Burt” Carnes and his wife Susan. Upon arrival, police found Seth Carnes exiting the home and admitting to the crime. Subsequently, he was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond.
The bodies of Alfred and Susan Carnes were discovered with fatal gunshot wounds inside their home. An initial investigation revealed that the murders stemmed from a disagreement between Seth Carnes and his parents, though details of the dispute were not disclosed.
Commander John Foster of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division expressed the community’s sorrow, particularly noting Alfred “Burt” Carnes’ esteemed position as a retired District Judge. Sheriff Mike Gleason also highlighted the respected and admired figure that Mr. Carnes was in their community, known for his dedication to justice and fairness.
Alfred Carnes retired in 2013 after serving as a judge for 23 years. At the time, he expressed no regrets about retiring and emphasized the importance of following the law in his role.
