Vancouver, Canada – Authorities have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of Japanese chef, Wataru Kakiuchi, in Vancouver’s Chinatown neighborhood last week. Kakiuchi, a Japanese citizen, was discovered near Main Street and Union Street in the early hours of June 5th. Despite efforts to transport him to the hospital, Kakiuchi tragically passed away.
The suspect, Timothy Isborn, was apprehended in the Downtown Eastside on Monday afternoon and has since been charged with second-degree murder. Investigators have stated that there is no apparent connection between Isborn and Kakiuchi, indicating a random act of violence.
Kakiuchi, 32, had been a respected chef and loyal employee at Hapa Izakaya, a Japanese restaurant located in Yaletown. He was known for his positive attitude and vibrant personality, leaving a lasting impression on his colleagues and friends. Justin Ault, the restaurant’s owner, described Kakiuchi as a talented musician, chef, and overall great individual who will be deeply missed.
According to Ault, Kakiuchi was socializing with coworkers in Gastown on the night of his tragic death. He had plans to take a taxi home to Burnaby at the end of the evening, but sadly never made it. The sudden and senseless loss of Kakiuchi has left his loved ones and the community in shock and mourning.
As the investigation into Kakiuchi’s murder continues, friends, family, and coworkers are left grappling with the loss of a beloved individual whose vibrant presence will be dearly missed. The tragic incident has underscored the need for increased safety measures and vigilance within the community.
