20-Year-Old Man Charged with Murder in Fatal Tuscaloosa Shooting Incident

TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA – A tragic incident unfolded Wednesday night in Tuscaloosa, as a 20-year-old man, Mikal Rashaun Kirkman, has been charged with murder following a shooting that claimed the life of a juvenile. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit confirmed Kirkman faces a single count of murder in connection with the incident.

The event took place at around 9:15 p.m. when authorities responded to a report of a shooting in the 3100 block of Second Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a young male victim with gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center, the victim succumbed to his injuries. Due to his age being under 18, the victim’s identity has been withheld.

Following standard protocol, the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation, meticulously processing the scene, interviewing witnesses, and identifying potential suspects. Subsequently, Kirkman was taken into custody. In accordance with Aniah’s Law, which permits judges to deny bond to individuals accused of violent crimes, Kirkman remains incarcerated without bond at the Tuscaloosa County Jail.
