CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Thursday afternoon shooting at a residential property in Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood left 15-year-old Christine Bogarty dead and brought a police search for suspects and weapons to the Spring Road area.
The shooting was reported around 1 p.m. Aug. 20 in the 900 block of Spring Road. Cleveland EMS said Bogarty was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers searched the surrounding area as the investigation developed, eventually recovering two firearms and taking two men into custody.
A neighbor told WOIO that the shooting occurred in the laundry room of Jennings Commons. Authorities had not publicly released a detailed account confirming the precise sequence inside the property, leaving several central questions unanswered, including what happened immediately before the gunfire and who else may have been present.
The police response extended beyond the location where Bogarty was found as officers looked through the area for a suspect and weapons. Investigators recovered two firearms during that search. Officials had not publicly stated by Friday whether either firearm was determined to have been used in the shooting or whether additional evidence had been recovered.
Cleveland police Sgt. Wilfredo Diaz confirmed that two men were arrested. Their identities were not included in the publicly available information reviewed Friday, and authorities had not announced a motive or detailed what connection, if any, the men had to Bogarty.
The limited information released in the first hours of the investigation left police working to establish a fuller timeline.
